OMAHA (DTN) -- Continuing the trend of the past several weeks, average retail prices for seven of the eight major fertilizers were lower than last month during the last week of September 2024, according to sellers surveyed by DTN. Prices for two fertilizers were down significantly, which DTN designates as 5% or more.

Leading fertilizer prices lower was potash, which was down 8% compared to last month. The fertilizer had an average price of $449 per ton. Also significantly lower was 10-34-0, which was 7% less expensive than last month. The starter fertilizer had an average price of $590 per ton.

Prices for five other fertilizers were slightly lower compared to last month. DAP had an average price of $736 per ton, MAP $805/ton, urea $485/ton, UAN28 $317/ton and UAN32 $350/ton.

One fertilizer was slightly more expensive than a month ago. Anhydrous had an average price of $687/ton.

On a price per pound of nitrogen basis, the average urea price was $0.53/lb.N, anhydrous $0.42/lb.N, UAN28 $0.57/lb.N and UAN32 $0.55/lb.N.

Intrepid Potash CEO Bob Jornayvaz has stepped down following an extended medical leave, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Barth Whitham, chair of the board of the fertilizer manufacturer, said on Oct. 4 that the board's search to appoint a new CEO is underway. Matt Preston, the company's finance chief, will continue to serve as acting principal executive officer, according to the company.

In April, Intrepid Potash announced that it had granted Jornayvaz temporary medical leave.

Prices for all except two fertilizers are lower than they were one year ago. 10-34-0 is 3% lower, UAN28 is 10% less expensive, potash is 12% lower, anhydrous is 13% less expensive, and both urea and UAN32 are 15% lower compared to last year.

The price of MAP is 2% higher, while the price of DAP is 5% more expensive than a year ago.

DTN gathers fertilizer price bids from agriculture retailers each week to compile the DTN Fertilizer Index. DTN first began reporting data in November 2008.

In addition to national averages, MyDTN subscribers can access the full DTN Fertilizer Index, which includes state averages, here: https://www.mydtn.com/….

The expanding military conflict in the Middle East would be bad news for retail fertilizer prices, according to one fertilizer analyst. You can read about it here: https://www.dtnpf.com/….
